7th White

The white team also earned second place in their bracket, starting off with a determined 47-37 effort against Sierra Express while welcoming Garrett Kauppila back from baseball. The team played sound team defense and forced Sierra into many awkward shots. The boys fought through a poor shooting performance to prevail and improved their execution in the press break to get several breakaway layups. Colin McHale played his usual good floor game, while Colin Hawkins and Vance Gregg made some strong drives to the basket and crisp inside passes. In an overtime thriller, YBA came back to beat Silicon Valley Tigers White 30-29. YBA led 26-21 late in the game, but some missed free throws led to a 26-26 tie at the end of regulation. SVT seized a three-point lead early in OT, but Connor Milnes out-hustled the Tigers to get an offensive rebound and record the winning tally at the buzzer. Jaeden Calton led a hustling effort with several dives to the floor to secure loose balls. The team couldn’t corral a very good Marin Ducks Red point guard in the final and lost the championship game by the score of 49-36. Coach Gregg was pleased that the boys didn’t give up and fought hard until the end.

Player of the tourney: Connor Milnes
